With the price of fuel now a days, I decided to build an enclosed trailer into a camper/hauler. My big block Ford Motorhome is just not cost effective to run anymore. Since I got the new diesel truck recently,(company truck), I went ahead and decided to go this route instead. I do not have the funds to go out and buy a nice new toy hauler for 20 grand so I bought a used enclosed trailer that was set up for hauling motorcross bikes to the track. It already has the awning, A/C, power and lighting, porta-john etc. All I need to do is install a kitchen in it for the ol-lady to cook. She likes to go with me when we go buggying and we are both getting to old to be tent camping for any length of time. After having a motorhome, I have been spoiled and have especially spoiled her!
I will post some progress pictures when I get rolling on this project. I already have my woodsbuggy sticker for the rear door! Thanks Dean.

With the prices flip flopping every other day it has taken a toll on where I get to go riding and when I get to go.
I have looked at getting an enclosed trailer and went to pick one up that I told the guy I was on the way to get it. Two hours later just about a mile from the guys house I pass the trailer headed the other direction. He sold it 30 minutes before I got there to pick it up. That sucked big time, was I pissed. So I am looking to do what your doing if I can find a trailer again at a price I can afford. I would like to see the progress you make as you go along.

Yea I was having the same issue with my Motor home at 7 miles to the gallon so I bought a used Toy hauler. I will say that the mileage is not much better pulling it with a 2006 F150 buts its sure a lot more conforatable and way more user friendly that than the Motor home.

The thing I am going to like the MOST is when we get to a camp spot and set up, I can still have the truck to run into town for supplies and not have to break down camp. Another thing is my Diesel still gets 13mpg when towing 10K pounds. This might allow me to do two big trips a year instead of one.

The thing I like about trailers is the fact that they are cheaper to insure, cheaper maintnance, dont have drive train to hope it makes the trip after sitting all

With my truck, it doesn't matter if I am pulling the buggy trailer or pulling nothing it still gets 14 MPG. Dont understand that but it does. Checked it pulling the buggy to and from D&K about 160 miles I think and I averaged 14.2 with out the buggy I averaged 14.8 MPG. Its an 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 with the small 4.7L (286) V8. Debating on using helper springs or the airbags when I get a toy hauler trailer.

I'm actualy going to remove the helpers and two inc spacers between the springs and axle. That will let the air bags work to there potential.

Toy haulers tend to have more tongue weight than a standard travel trailers so air bags would be the way to go. The tongue weight on mine is 1100#. Helper springs give you a rough ride when your not towing were the pressure in the air bags can be lowered. Best of both worlds. I would recommend a load leveler/antisawy bar hitch setup. It will balance the triler weight btween the front and rear wheels of the truck and make it handel a lot better.

It's 8'x20'. This leaves me 8 feet in the front part for a bathroom/shower and a kitchen area. We will sleep in the rear. I have everything I need to do the conversion. I bought a totaled slide in truck camper for 200 bucks and stripped it out. Took out all the appliances and everything else. I am going to start on this in about a month. I will post pictures as I go along.

awesome, my buddy has a 16 foot enclosed i have been trying to get him to sell me. i figure that i could atleast do a foldout bed in the front and toolboxes. i really want to do something like this, it would be a good time and r eally neat.

Been doin the same thing myself! Bought a ratty ol' '85 36' enclosed gooseneck for $2000 about a month ago. Already wired for 110 w/ a breaker box & (4) 4' lights in it, and (4) 12 volt lights, Grey, black and fresh tanks under it already. Had a sink & propane furnace hooked up already, but they was right in the way, so had to yank 'em to move 'em. Everything in it looks like a 3 day old monkey installed it!! Barn doors on the back are half rotted. Gonna build a ramp door to replace 'em. Had to replace two sections of floor. Roof leaks everywhere. Talk about a PROJECT! Only thing that worked right is the roof A/C unit. :lol:
At least it was cheap , for a g/n.

BUT...two buggies fit in it easy!! Pulls great, too. Feels much lighter than I expected, lighter than my camper w/ my trailer behind it did. The rest is just minor details. :twisted:

Hope to have it done for AL in March. Probably wont, but it sounds good anyways. :roll:

Thats what I have been looking for, one like that. I found a V nose but it would do what I wanted because of the nose. Would help in gas mileage when pulling it but thats it.
