I know this isn't the forum for this but I built my first computer today and I'm pretty proud of myself. I know there's some tech guys on here and I wanted to see what you thought. I built it for my son as a gaming computer. Its got a ASRock z77 extreme4 motherboard, Intel i7 3770 3.4 MHz processor, nvidia gtx 760 video card, 2 terra byte hard drive , 500w power supply and its all stuffed in a diablotek evo atx mid-tower case. It seems to perform fairly well, much better than the old factory built gateway. My only problem so far is the fans. There's 4 fans in the case 2 in the video card 1 in the power supply and one on the processor. With 8 fans going this thing sound like a harrier jet taking off. Do I really need 4 fans in the case or can I disconnect 2 of them? Any thoughts on the hardware I chose?

i don't deal with gaming pcs , but it sounds like you got good internal hardware that will last.
but i like i tell everyone that ask that question do i need that many fans, i always say, if the manufacture puts a fan on something, then there is a good reason for it, so i would leave the fans alone. it will last a lot longer and it will be a lot less heat up and cool down on all the solder joints. which causes problems down the road.

Also you want as good as cooling as you can get heat is the death of a pc and dust so if its loud their are other fans that are more quiet also bigger fans are not as loud or you can buy a corsair h100i loquid cooling sysyem for your cpu its self contained so just as easy as hooking up a fan

The graphics card is what started this. He got it for Christmas. I was just going to put it in the gateway but found out it wasn't compatible with the Acer ipimb-ar m-board that was in it so I got the z77 m-board brought it home and found out it wouldn't fit in the old case and so on and so on. After SEVERAL trips to the computer store I've got a brand new computer and spend a lot of buggy part money on it:cry:

Just curious; how much ram are you running?

Also my only recommendation is that you place an SSD in there for your OS to boot from. That will make things a lot snappier!

I'm only running 8gb right now but have room for 4 cards to upgrade later. I'll check into the ssd.

Ok thanks guys. Upgraded ram today to 2 8gb sticks. So now my bottle neck is definitely the hard drive. Any suggestions on brand/model ssd?

Agreed. Your SSD don't have to be huge as you will only want to run your OS and your most used games and programs on it and use your other drives for data and backup.

Pretty cool Jesse. I used to build my computers about 15 years ago. They finally got cheap enough just to buy one. But its neat to have a specialized one. You really can't buy one to meet personal needs at a reasonable cost. I look back now and realized I enjoyed building my PC's. I guess its kinda like building a buggy. "You did it the way you wanted it". There is satisfaction in that. If you don't mind to tell. How much will you have in that little monster?

this is my first build and im enjoying it its being built for gaming and in total i have around $2200 in it but to buy a prebuilt with this kind of performance it would run about 3500 so you save good amount building them yourself

Nice job. looks great.

I don't see your ssd is it hidden somewhere or still waiting on it?
can you remove the bottom or middle set of hard drive bays in that case for better airflow?

download novabench post up your score.
