| Post subject: | What Gear should I use? |
Hey Roy. I am thinking about getting hardened gears (1st and 2nd) in my six rib. How do I figure out what is the best 1st gear for climbing. I don't want to spend the money on something differant unless I'm pretty sure it will work. The way it runs now I feel like I could step up to 35" tires. But maybe I should be going with a differant gear? Dean |

I would like to stay with the 33's. I would also like to be able to climb more in 2nd. The tranny I have now is stock except for the super diff. Let me know what it would cost to add those gears. Dean |

Weddle first and second racing mainshaft and gears cost $584 plus shipping. While you are in there you should definitely put new synchro's on those two gears. They are $15.95 each. If you are going to stay with 33's and you feel like you have the power to raise your gear ratio, by all means you should. Having a gear that is too tall is not good for climbing. It's a balance between engine power, buggy weight and traction. No two buggies are the same. If you feel like your gear is to low and you could go to bigger tires and it would not hurt, you should change your ratio. It will help. Roy |

One more thing I forgot to mention. Weddle offers Sportsmen gearsets which are much cheaper than their racing gearsets. I personally have not used any of these so I don't know how they hold up. R |
