I'm gonna show my ignorance but I dont know anything about a six rib tranny I found two I am buying them together I just need a little help deciding which one is better, one is a nose shift and has 091 on it. The other has some kind of side shift deal on it.

Thanks, Rick

Depends on which side shift you are buying.
Does the shift mechanism come out the intermediate housing or the actual center case section?
Like this one:

For ease of installation, most people use the nose shift style. The later side shift style like in the picture are stronger but the shift linkage has to be custom.

If you get the side shift in the nose, (like I am), can you just swap out the nose from an older bus tranny to make it front shift?

You gotta use parts from the 091 six rib to do the conversion.
If you have all that you might as well use the whole 091 rather than convert.

The main thing is the intermeidate housing from a 091. They have not made any since 1979 so they are getting hard to find. You can buy the nose cone from weddle and they are working on the intermeidate housing.
