This isn't directly buggy related, but does anyone know anything about Ford transmissions? i have a '96 F-150 with a 5-speed (Mazda M50D) that decided that it doesn't like 3rd or 4th gear anymore. When I shift frim 2nd to 3rd it is like neutral. 4th is the same way. The shifter goes where it is suppost to go, but nothings there. Th weird part is if I'm stopped and put it in 3rd or 4th it will go in and try to take off like it should. It only engages from a stop. I took it out last night, and it seems to look fine. I can slide the syncro hub into 3rd and 4th by hand and all looks fine. I didnt hear anything break when it first happened. The syncronizers all look fine, the "dogs" are all in place and look fine. Any help would be great!! Thanks

You're right, it does sound weird, it tells me that your clutch is going bad until you said that it will only engage from a dead stop. I dunno, have you turned the transmission by hand while shifting the gears by hand to see if the output shaft is spinning?? I know that it worked somewhat on your truck, but see if it will work while its out of the truck. You got me on this....I would call a Ford dealership and ask them that question and see what they got to say or a local transmission repair shop. Good luck, sorry, I could'nt be much of help.

Figured it out. The shift fork is wore out. all the little "tangs" are gone. I've never heard of this happening, and leads me to believe there is a bigger problem. but the truck already has 115,000 miles on it and all I use it for is firewood and fun, so I dont see it running long enough to wear out another one. Thanks Badvw!
