I have a railbug w/swingaxle trans. I want to improve the gearing in my transaxle for better hill-climbing. I haven't checked the case code to see what ratio I have yet. The question is...would I change out the ring and pinion? would a differential change be better, or would I need to get close-ratio gearing? I don't have a huge budget for this mod. What do you guys think?
Thanks.

Those guys pretty much summed it up. Put your money towards a bus IRS. It will cost you less in the long run.

You can save the swing axle,,they are getting more and more rare. the trike , sand, and drag folks like them as well as the purist and rebuilders. You can use a bus IRS, or better yet you can put a bus tranny in a sedan IRS. It leaves you more options for upgrading trailing arms and can be more durable.

You can buy a three or 6 rib for less than a set of close ratio gears. As others have said Swing axel is not worth the effort. Its old school technology and your limited on the amount of travel it offers and not to mention the extreme camber problem it presents. I had it in my 1st Buggy and I changed it out after two rides to IRS.
