Well, I've done it again, jerked another german pinion bearing housing into 2 pieces.
I've figured all of the weaknesses that an 091 can have and modified every weakness so those won't break.
I have no idea how to keep a pinion bearing from breaking into 2 pieces, it breaks just where the threads bottom out.
Main problems, heavy buggy,35/15.5/15 cut boggers, and too many beers.
I wonder if someone makes pinion bearing housings from 300m material.
Eric any ideas?
One thing, I'm gonna have that heavy Subaru flywheel lightened.
I've been lucky both times, my $1500 weddle gearset has survived both times, thrust plates work.

I have seen these break too... even with new bearings. I backed the torque down a little to 190-200 ft lbs and have not had any more problems. I like the nut to as tight as possible, but everything has a limit. I suspect also, that some of these bearing races are just too hard and brittle. No doubt that high HP also puts a lot more "shove" on the bearing/threads as well..as does beer and heavy clutches/feet! lol

I backed off on the torque this time, hopefully that works.

Heavy flywheels are for little motors to chug and get 1 more spark to lite 1 more cylinder. And to get some "kick" out of starting off.If you have a suby don't worry about it.Those Germans did not make their's heavy for nothing.Wind it up and roast some tires. That inertia at 5K rpm will kick some tires.Sure the lite ones rev easy but let loose a heavy one and and see the grab you grip!If you have a bigo motor that 1 or 2 pounds ain't gonna be noticable no way on the top end.Go from 1st to 2nd with a heavy. You will need it if you shift fast.
