I decided to take off the nosecone on my tranny (091) to change the shifter ball to a steal one and when i pulled it off the tranny,a piece of metal fell out.It is shaped like a woodruff key,but thinner. It looks like a .50 cent piece cut in half.It dont look like a broken piece,it has been stamped out of something.I looked through the tranny much as i could and could find nothing sheared off, plus there is no way it came from inside of the nosecone, because it is metal, not cast aluminum.Does anybody have any ideas where this came from or have you seen this before? |

Buckmaster it is the peice that keeps the Mainshaft bearing from turning in the Intermedite housing. There is a notch in the bearing and a notch in the housing that it fits in. Call me if you have any questions kydecoy |

I'd put that back in, should it spin the bearing, it'll ruin your intermediate case bearing bore. |

3-ribs and 5-ribs did not have the lock, but I assume VW saw a problem here and upgraded. It needs to be there, but it could probably wait until you take the engine back off or the trans back out for another reason. |

Buckmaster I would fix it right away. if the bearing bore gets worn too much it is hard to fix. 6 ribs are none for this bearing going down and causing gear deflection witch in turn will cause you to break gears in the tranny. It is your tranny but if you know there is a problem fix it. kydecoy |
