Stage 2 and a 6 puck, no slip with 220 HP

I am having some trouble with my clutch slipping. I changed over to a 2.2 subaru and i am using the small car performance bellhousing adapter. With this adapter I am using the flywheel and pressure plate from the subaru and the friction disk from a vw. I tried the stock pressure plate from a 2.5 subaru and it slipped. I called small car performance and they told me the stock one would slip and said I needed to use the ecedy fjc 524 pressure plate that they sell. I bought that one and installed it and it still slips. Going down the road it works fine but once I get offroad it slips. They sell a stage 2 pressure plate and I am waiting to find out what the clamp force is on the 524 and the stage 2. I know a lot of guys are running the subaru with the kep adapter that uses the vw pressure plates. Is everyone running stage 2 or 3 vw pressure plates to keep from slipping? I was thinking that going from a 8 inch vw pressure plate to the 9 inch subaru would be a stronger clutch setup. I guess i'm looking for any suggestions or ideas on this. Thanks |

most everyone with any power runs a stage 2 or bigger,thats what i run with a 6 puck clutch |

I had a 2.2 suby with stage 2 pp and kushloc and it slipped,,went to 6 puck and it gripped,,now I run a stage 4 pp on my 3.3 with 6 puck and never slipped. Keeping my fingers crossed. |

I've been running a stage 1 with kushlock 2.2 suby 37" tires for 7 yrs. and I'm on my second kushlock with same pressure plate, all kennedy. I've always thought you could run a stock pressure plate if you have a 3 puck or 6 puck disk, with no slipping. A 9" clutch should not slip, are you riddin that clutch alot when your offroad, making it heat up? 228 mm clutch is 9" ,I think, a stock vanagon sachs 9" 228mm pressure plate has 200 lbs. as compared to my 200mm 8" stage 1 with 180 lbs. Is your adjustment right? |

Is your adjustment right? I just put this together and it is a brand new clutch. It slipped as soon as I took it out into a field to test it. I found out today the the exedy 524 pp has 1100 pounds of clamp force. I'm going to get the stage 2 from small car performance that has 2200 pounds of clamp force and get a 6 puck from kennedy. It think that will take care of my problem. |

I got my new 6 puck from kennedy today. It a 9" with thick pucks. I'm going to try this with the pp I already have to see if it will hold. If not then I'll order the stage 2 pp.

Ive always used KEP Stage 2 PP's with 4 puck unsprung disc's. For my Pinto motor Im using an unsprung 3 puck race compound disc since I expect about 140 LB.FT of torque. |
