I have a 6 rib that I want to have a superdiff installed, and checked to see if it needs rebuilt. I am located in Chardon, OH( East of Cleveland). Anyone know who to call in the area? About how much should I expect to spend? |

Figure around $200-300 for the diff depending on if you need spider gears and shims and bearings, and around $300 labor plus any parts you might need would be close to going rate I think |

If the 6 rib is out of a bus and not out of a Buggy odds are it does not need rebuilding. If you have mechanical ability then Installing a super diff is no big deal. |

Ok, stupid question here. I got a superdiff, and want to put it in. Bellhousing is off, drive flanges are off... now what? Is a special tool needed to get the diff out, or am I being an idiot? Please help! |

there is a snap ring on the input shaft that has to slid back and then the gear next to it slid back off of the splines and then the input shaft will just unscrew you also have to have a tool to get the screw in side diff cups out but this can be home made maybe somebody has some pics of some they made on here somewhere |

I made a tool to get the adjusting ring out, or bearing retainer some call it (the big star looking things). I used a large socket, just big enough to fit into the big star and welded two beads on it to grab the star. The socket size is 2-1/4” ![]() ![]() Make sure you mark each bearing retainer with a small chisel before you unscrew them also count how many turns. For the input shaft you need to slide the snap ring back and the slide the gear back and it will unscrew. If you right click the exploded view of the picture and save it you will be able to see the entire picture. Or click here http://www.ratwell.com/technical/091Transmission/091DriveSeals.jpg |

Another wat is to use the "Retaining cup" and a piece of flat stock bolted to it as a wrench. But that only works if you have steel retaining caps. I bought a steel one from weddle a while back and made a tool out of it. I hav also seen where someone used a piece of flat stock (1-1/2" wide) and cut it so it fit inside and welded something to it to turn.... it |

my friend down here in east canton has been doing trannys for around 20 years. It is always good to go through a 6 rib out of a bus and have new bearings put in and everything checked over. He is on here, but doesn't get on much, his name is buggyb. PM me if you want his number.. |
