long story short..... steep uphill climb about 30+mph. hit jump and got air born. after that heard loud popping, crunching sound. figured the cv was busted and headed for the truck. the noise got better, seemed to only show up at increased speed. at times seemed to go away all together. i removed both axles with the buggy still on the trailer. cv cages looked ok. i started it and ran the buggy through the gears without the axles installed (no load) and there is no noise now. i am thinking ring and pinion?? but i am puzzled because there is no noise now. any suggestions? sorry its a stock 091 bus |

Also check the grease in the drive flanges and stub axles. I broke 2 cv’s because I didn’t check the grease in the stub axle and there was a small piece of an old cage in it. If the cv's check out good pull the drain plug and look for chunks of metal on the magnetic drain plug. |

WHich trans are you using? If a 3 rib then usually 1st gear or spider gears (sometines R&P as they are junk too). If a 5-rib then most likely spider gears. If a 6-rib then either spider gears or 1st gear... Eric |
