I got my new side shift watercooled 091 transmission mounted. I have the fabricated tubular frame horns from Berrien on the torsion tube. I also just use a straight tube for the torsion housing, I don't use torsion bars. Since I didn't have the smaller diameter section, like a VW torsion housing would in the middle, my front mount sits further back. I had to cut the small bosses off the sides of the transmission just to get it to fit between the frame horns. On my front mount I had to remove the two lower studs on the transmission and then cut the bosses flush. This allowed the transmission to sit very close to the front mount. I then used a steel plate and bolted it to the two remaining upper studs and then bent it to fit the mount on my torsion. The rear lower mount also hit some of the ribs on the bellhousing preventing it to sit low enough to get the studs through. I just ground down the ribs a 1/4" or so and it cleared easily then. This was by no means a direct bolt in swap for my frame. Anyone else have issues like this?

YES that is not for the impatient to do! I put mine on swing axle frame horn so it was exactly the same only different? I had to cut the inside pinch welds off and plate the inside of the horn ,Trim extra tabs off the side of the trans,ect... I used mckenzies 10 degree mount On a 002 bellhouseing and ended up cutting stuff off and repositioning bosses and relocating holes and stuff like that to make it work. The front mount i reversed and incorarated part of my shift linkage. All in all it was a pretty cranial process

I had similar Issues when I installed mine. My frame has a custom torsion and frame horns so I did not have any side to side clearence issues. Because the side shift is an inch longer than a standard 6 rib I did have to cut the nose cone mount off of the torsion and remake a mount. I used the stock vanagon nose cone mount for my plate. I also was only able to use the top two mounting boss's on the nose cone. I made another plate that welded to the the frame horn and bolted to the two boss's on the side of the trans for additional strength. The vanagon bell housing did require clearencing for it to mount, however I ended up using a standard 6 rib bell housing. Of cource this all changed when I started the Subie conversion. I ended up lowering the nose of the trans and now are using all four of the mounting boss's and eliminated the side support.

I believe he started with a standard 10 degree mount. They are used a lot for baja bugs.

Not to get off the subject but how are you making the shifting linkage? I have been trying to find1 and I am unable to any help would be appreciated.

That cable shift is a slick set-up. I don't like the price tag, but this is a really nice design for those that don't want to modify there frame to support the pillow block bearing for the other linkage.
