I just got my first rail and thought it had a bus tranny but come to find out it is a car . Would it best to go ahead and run it or go ahead and put the bus tranny in it? Im doing some more to it, and i can get the bus transmisson i just dont know how hard they are to change from swing axle to irs and what all it takes? |

Are you saying you have a swing axel (no CVs) now? If so Its not to hard to convert to IRS providing you have the jigs to weld the Pivot bracket on. As far as the car trans I would at lewast go with a 3 Rib Buss trans. The car trans is a lot weaker that the buss trans and the gearing is not real good for the woods. |

Run what you have till it breaks, then do the switch. This will give you some time to save up all the parts to do the switch. |

its not to much to it cut out your swing axle and weld in the irs and and u got to go and buy the bus trans mount kit which is like 30 or so bucks and when it comes to the shifting rod u will have to cut and angle it or double stack your box the shifter bolts to the buss sits up a lil higher than a car trans if im wrong in any way correct me lol and u will need to get 2 bus cv's 4 if u want to change your stubs out and go buss on bus which is much better |

what he was saying about your shift linkage is correct, i ran into the same issue when i swiched to a 3 rib, rather than do alot of modifying to the shifter box they sell an adapter that bolts onto the rod from the tranny and then to your shift rod, about 20 bucks, i got mine from drews off road, it makes up for the 3 inch height difference or so that there is, saved me alot of time and head ache, works pretty good too, i did have to move my shift box back about 2 inches but i guess that will depend on how long your rod is! ha try it it is worth the money, good luck |

I would recommend raising the shift box up rather than an adapter -- when i used the adapter it would work loose and the tranny didnt want to go all the way in gear. |
