If you put a 6 rib bellhousing on a 3 rib tranny, will the input shaft splines of the tranny engage the splines in the clutch disc? I know the 6 rib bell is about 1/2" thicker where the starter goes, but dont know if the whole thing is too tall (long) for this to work. Never compared 'em that way. Dont care if its not a perfect full engagement , just wanna know if it will work before I bother to seal the tranny and poke the motor on. Puttin it on a stock motored buggy. Runnin out of 3rib bellhousings. Dont wanna use one up on this buggy. Thanks, Larry |

They will swap with no problems other than the starter. I'm assuming you know that you still need the 3-rib input shaft or cut the 6-rib input shaft. |

Never tryed that however you could measure from the face of the 6 rib bell housing to were the splines begin and then measure the beginning of the splines in the clutch pressure plate assembly from the mounting face of the motor. You will probably lose about 3/8" of the spline engaugement. |

Thanks y'all. Yeah I know about the input shaft. Im trying to use the 3 rib tranny w/ 6 rib bell, so 3rib input shaft will be what is in use. Saved me some time and trouble for trial and error. Now, whos got a used stock 6 rib starter for sale cheap that at least works well enough to crank a stock 1600?  Larry |

I think I've got a stock 6 rib starter--email me directly if interested. I was running a 3 rib with 091 bellhousing with no problems--I have a type IV motor but the clutch disc should be located in the same place. |
