| Post subject: | Shift rod |
Im getting ready to build the shift rod for my baja. I have always left that to the local VW shop to do but they are pretty backed up and I dont want to wait. Im think all I need to do is get the transaxle in 1st and set the shifter where I want first to be then cut the rod the desired length. I have the cup that the shifter ball fits into, the poly bushing that goes between the shiftrod and the trans, and the piece that goes on the end of the shift rod (into the bushing). Is there anything else I need or should be aware of? |

Bugpack sells an adjuster you can weld in the shift rod. It is not expensive and it makes a homemade shift rod shift like a dream. Being able to fine tune it is nice. You should base the set-up on the neutral position. Roy |

As Roy said, make sure the tranny is in neutral and put the shift rod in posistion and line the shifter socket up so that it is in the center of the shift box. Take a look at BuckPack part No. 5548, and 5528. This is waht I have used for the past 6 years with no problems at all. If you don't have there cataloge you can view it at www.Bugpack.com |
