I have gotten a hold of a perfect running 5 rib and was wondering what exactly a super diff. does? and the advantage is with having one. I like the gearing of the 5 rib compared to the 6.

Its similiar to putting a posi unit in a rear drive front engine car. Makes both wheels drive instead of just one, but its not solid , like a spool. In other words there is limited slippage. It is also much stronger, partially because there are four spider gears instead of just two. Roy can explain much more in depth, if you need to know more.

A 5 rib is a great choice to run. The ring gear is much stronger than it's 3 rib cousin.
To make a 5 rib last in the woods, I would install a 6 rib super diff in it. You can install one for about 500 bucks turn key.
A super diff is a must if you run the

hey roy

whats the difference between a 002 super diff and a 6 rib super diff?

i got my 5-rib broken down because reverse is almost gone, looking for a strong cheap fix.

i can get an 091 super diff for 350 bucks and a 002 super diff for $170.

i kinda want to go the cheap route.

There are several differences between the 002 super diff. and the 091.

Both are major improvements over using a stock one. If you like to run your buggy hard and y

A superdiff increases strength of the spider gear section. It slighty performs a posi action, but very little. The stock diff/spider gears are usually the first weak link in VW transmisisions.

I too am glad to see Eric DeBord over here. Thanks for visiting Eric and I hope you stick around. For those of you that might not know him, he is probably one of the best and knowledgeable transaxle builders in the country.
