 Post subject: tranny identification

i was wondering if any one could tell me what type of tranny this is i know it is a car tranny but never saw one like this.

Thats a late model car. They call it a sigle side case trans. It has a 3.88 ring and pinion. Great for street aplication. Its the strongest car trans out there. some guys compare it to six rib.

thanks bret we were going to put it in my dads charger knowing that it is a vw that will save us some time.

It's a late model SSC from a 75 and up Beetle.
You can tell by the offset rib in the center, left tranny.
Earlier IRS SSC trannies had a straight rib down the center.
