What does the 542 come in? Is it an aftermarket gear? I know 3, 5, and 6 rib trannys come with different ratios but what does the 542 gear come in?

Came in a 3 rib. Was not a very common ratio and pretty rare. Must have the matching pinion shaft to go with it.
It is the weakest ring gear out of all of them.

I've heard that too.
Must have another tooth on the pinion shaft.........

Is the pinion shaft from this diesel transaxle the same as a regular 091, 4.56 pinion shaft? If not, what does it take to make it work?

How does the diesel 5.46 R&P compare in strength to the 4.56 091?

SORRY STEVE, did not mean to hijack your thread!
