Well I think I might be getting all that I need to get a stick o matic in my buggy. Wanted to ask what all I need to make sure and what I should look for. The tranny I am getting has everything convertor, flex plate, fly wheel adapter and a pump. What else do I need to put this together?
The one that have the stick o matics I can't get a hold of. I did get to talk to Buggymethis about it for a little bit on the phone, so thanks for his help.
Thanks

For some reason I think you need the shifter too.

No, the shifter from autostick is not required. The autosticks had a solenoid that pulled the clutch arm in when you put your hand on the shifter ---- we use straight drive petals w/ foot clutch.

So does that mean that it is the same as a regular sedan trans then, since you remove the auto part of it? I have never seen one before.

You don't have to worry about the clutch as much when trail riding. You still have to change gears when needed. Makes trail riding easier to tag along with other buggies without riding the clutch. My buddy has one and loves it. Has rode places like D&K, Creek, WindRock and Aetna in it.
Will I need an adapter plate or anything. I have been told yes and no.

Why not go fully auto? I know it's not as "cool" as banging through the gears, but would seem so much simpler.

Your right Rockrockets, you can put it in gear and it will sit their until the RPM's come up for the torque convertor to kick in. Friend of mine likes his and has climbed most of everything at the Creek and several of the hills at D&K with no issues.

I have been running mine for 4 years now and it does fine. I am pretty hard on it ---pulling 38 boggers and running a 5.42 w/ 2276 and twin 44s. When straight gears have to stop on hills ----restarting is a bears ass---- not so with autostick!

Here are some pics of autostick oil pumps, belhousings, and trans. I will try and explain how they adapt to a bus trans. A few of you have PMed me and asked for pics of how they are used.
Image
Pic of autostick oil pump
Image
Break away of oil pump---notice the three layers---- two pumps stacked together with a plate that has seals to keep two types of fluid apart from each other.
Image
This one shows the front section of belhousing where torque convertor goes---a full automatic trans would have a pump located here instead of on front of eng oil pump.
Image
Here you can see the inner flywheel. It is bolted to a shaft, supported by a bearing and goes into the torque convertor. The inside of the convertor looks like the fins of a turbo or jet eng. Those blades in a fluid bath is what drives everything. Depending on how much throttle, depends on how much slippage you have in the convertor up to a certain rpm. When you reach that rpm it becomes [locked up] and no longer slips.
Image
Then the clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing are seen inplace.
Image
This last pic shows the top of a complete auto stick w/ servor that pulled the clutch arm in when you would put your hand on the shifter through an interupt switch. The convertor, belhousing, flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, throw out bear, clutch arm and an adapter are needed to make this work. I hope these pics will help! Don't mind the barn dirt.

With an auto you can't stay in one gear, with the stick o matic you can for hill climbing or trail riding. The only thing that the auto stick does is allow you to keep it in gear while you are at a stand still without having to push in the clutch and hold it. They are several other reasons also but I can't think of it right now.

Autosticks will have some hold back where full autos will not. Straight gears are jerky when trying to crawl across large rocks that you cant aford to be WFO.

If your motor dies(which drives the pump for the stickomatic)do you lose all coupling to the trans? Example: Put it in 1st gear when parking and kill the motor, will it stay put or do you have to have an e brake?

You have to use a line lock or something to hold it from rolling on you, Yes. Not that big of a deal just out in a ball valve in your brake line is all.
