Stay in the power band. Weddle Industries now offers a 5-Speed Upgrade Kit for your VW 094 2WD gearbox. Converting your 4-speed to a 5-speed will eliminate the gaps in gearing and minimize the rpm drops between gears. This will help your engine stay in its optimal power band.

Application: VW 094 2WD gearboxes

Get optimal gearing. The standard 4-speed 2WD VW 094 gearbox comes with the following ratios (USA spec):

R&P: 4.86 1st: 3.78 2nd: 2.06 3rd: 1.23 4th: 0.85

The Weddle 5-speed Kit comes standard with the following ratios:

R&P: 4.57 1st: 4.11 2nd: 2.13 3rd: 1.48 4th:1.02 5th: (0.85)*
*This kit requires using the existing 4th (0.85) gear in the 5th gear position

Optional/addtional ratios are also available (at additional cost):
R&P Set: 4.13, 4.83, 4.86
2nd Gear: 2.33
5th Gear: 0.82, 0.77, 0.75, 0.73, 0.70
Plug your ratios into the Weddle Industries Gear Ratio Calculator to determine your ideal gearing. If you need any help, give us a call to discuss on your specific set up. We do this every day.

I love the idea, but too bad the 5th gear ratios are about worthless off road.

That would be nice for a street and trail buggy. I would like the closer gears and then when going home from the trails hit the highway and grab 5th gear. But man it's hard on my wallet when I ride the road with my stones. I can literally hear the dollars being wore of them, lol. Chad

Get a close trans that NEVER breaks. dave's Passat fwd ran longways is condensed using the 307:1 aluminum Mark 8, Lincoln diff. He climbs in 2 or 3rd. 4th is a good chugger for dirt roads . 1st is a stump puller. 5th is a hiway gear. Still going since '09. Put some sparcely spiked tires on it and it will walk the planet. Pull a part $100. $100 will only get you a chromoly pinion nut shipped to your door. Not a cliff climber but it loves deep washouts and rutted out trails. Remember the pics with a cement block stood up longways with a soda can on top, under the diff? And as always. No adapter kit, IMS starter, Kennedy clutch assembly, slave cyl, 4 spyder diff, oil cooler, carbs, super flow heads, Msd, and has factory 10:1 CR , no distributor, has computerized self adjusting ignition, and fuel efficient fuel injected on $2 pump gas. No more pull over to the side and play woobow with yer carbs. Oh and proven ready to run motors are $500. What can you get for $500 for an a/c. I'd choose a more plentiful car maker the next go around. A strong 4 cylinder automatic would be a good choice. Investigate the fwd trans diff 1st for welding solid practicalities. Oh, and the cable shifters on manual and auto just simply lay out and bolt to the floor. No whining about, "Can someone build me a shifter for a side shift" lol. Sorry Weedle.
