Post subject:  New SS Build Shift Linkage Setup

I am in the process of building a brand new SS. I am using a 5 rib trans, and would like to see some picturesand details of other shifter linkage setups. Im not really sure what route to take so im looking at all the options.

Save up lots of money, put it in the bank and retire at 40.

The best, cheapest and easiest way is with two small universal joints connecting the shifter to the trans if there is enough room, if not it gets "complicated".............

I will take a few pics when I get home today. It can be VERY simple!! I had one of those side shift linkages (not nearly as nice as madmikes) and it was a pain in the a$$! too many moving parts.

All help is much appreciated. I like the look of the setup madmike, but it does seem a but complicated with alot of potention adjustment issues...once it is adjusted have you had many issues with it?

Racebugg how do they twist like that?

having the bend before the joint lets the weight of the shift tube always hold the shifter to the 3rd-4th side of the shift gate. kevins has quite a bit more bend to it, but works great. You would never know it was bent like that if you didn't see it. My buggy shifts better than any buggy I have ever tried. It is just as tight as a new car.

Wow!! I cant tell but no universal joints or anything?

Post subject:  Re: New SS Build Shift Linkage Setup

they both have 2 joints. The red one has one on either side of the "s bend" and mine has one at the trans and after the first bend.

That is sharp. Didn't think it would work but, I may try it also

All right, I must have grown a brain tumor or something, I'm not seeing it. The lateral movement I get, the rotational movement I'm not getting. Those are all steel parts, no cable in there?

Well I know what you all are saying and im the same way, but obviously it works cause its on two race buggys that's been around for a while. Like I said ,I would've lost money on a bet!!! The universals must play the key role ????????? :?

its one of those things that is way to easy to overthink. they are both regular old 6 ribs. Yes it is solid tube (heavy wall). Yes it does lift and drop with rotational movement.

here is one joint connected to the trans

here is a pic from the other side. There is a small green bungee cord holding it down to help keep tension on it and keep play to one side.

Clever setup Racebugg. Something tells me the "first gen" model of that linkage must have taken some trial and error to perfect.

I think a video would help, I think I get it but then again still makes my head hurt, I never would thought that could work, nice

Yep it works grate. The joints are from Drews off road they are a ball and pin and the one on the trans is 7/8 by 1/2 and goes wright on the trans . I welded a 1/4'' nut on it to go on the trans . And there is no ajusters to come lose. I hope to have the a arm buggy at Drews swap and sale April 12

I'm going to follow this cause I need ideas too. My current linkage is all screwed up. Going to redo it soon.

Mike they use sealed ujoints like that on aircraft and the racing world caught on to them years ago but "good" ones are pricey

Two cheap ujoints and a used connecting rod. Works great. Chad
