After the last wheeling trip, I went to do some street cruising and I have some sort of noise in my trans.

The trans shfts fine and there isnt any funny vibration or anything, but at the top of second (not on it, just wound up rpm wise) then all the time in 3 and 4 there is a noise that sounds similar to a cv clicking but at about 3 or 4 times the speed.

Even if I am just cruising with a light load on the trans it is there all the time. If I let of the gas and decelerate noise goes away completely.

I already pulled axles. Cv's look good. Planning on pulling trans next and either having my mechanic friend help me fix the problem or send it back to Don's Bus Box and have him fix it.

Just wondering if anyone has encountered this or has an idea what might be messed up or if it will be an $$$ fix.

My guess . A Pinion bearing bad. 3rd and 4th gear bearings are closest to it and they have to take the load. These bearings are always under a load but more so when engaged. There for, misaligned pinion teeth will always roar under a load especially chipped or missing teeth. What type of trans is it?

Thanks DD. I know you have broke a trans about every way possible and unfortunately that is the only way to diagnose stuff like this. It is a built 091with all the weddle goodies and an LSD. I have tore up a pinion gear before. I dont think it is that. I was leaning toward a bearing as well. It isnt a roar/howl though. I have heard a howling ring and pinion. This is a very distinct clicking. No variation or quiet points like damaged teeth. Just solid clicking. Imagine going 40mph with an angry cv that is clicking.... then speed up the amount of clicks by about 4 or 5 times to where it is more of a "grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"......... But TOTALLY goes away when decelerating. Thanks again for the reply. Any and all opinions/hypothesis are greatly appreciated.

Trans in my four seater did the exact same thing.. pinion bearing turned in the case and murdered the RnP. I had to get another trans and another 5.42 RnP

Glad I only drove it a few miles like that. Hopefully I didn't trash the R&P or the case... Guess I will pull the trans and see what's what. Looks like I will be starting on CX-3 a couple months early....

Pulled trans last weekend in lieu of the warming weather. Chipped half a tooth off the pinion gear.

7 days ago I mailed it to Don's Bus Box where I purchased it originally and it is already coming back to me on Tuesday. Thanks Don. Your the MAN!
