I want to build a four seat buggy with four wheel drive. The place where I am stuck is I need a way to dis-engage the front drive shaft so I can drive in 2WD like a normal buggy. I don't want a transfer case, any ideas?

How are going to get power to front?
Fwd engine and trans turned sideways?

Just run a drop box like a sled puller does. not really a transfer case but more like a splitter

If you use a VW Syncro 094 Trans, you can get a nose cone decoupler to disengage the front drive shaft.

I believe some of the older Subaru Trans had a disconnect as well but you would need to buy the reverse ring and pinion from subaru gears.

Sideways FWD trans. I'd use a VW tranny, but I want one designed for more then 60HP on the street. Trying to make it durable, not just simple.

Its made for Bikes. probably about as good an idea as putting a 50 hp tranny on a 200 hp buggy. Right basic design, just want something that last for more then 6 good rides.

500 HP at what weight tire size and terrain? Each thing you change changes that rating. 600lb street bike wont have the load a 2500lb 4x4 buggy will in the woods on hills.

The best thing to do would be to call the company and tell them what you're wanting it for instead of basing everything off of the video, if they recommend it and warrantee it then go for it, it's a nice design.

If I have to park and get out to put it in 4WD I'd never put in 2WD.
