I am wondering if a Subaru Trans would be more reliable than an 091. Since the Trans is made to bolt to an engine with 250HP, you would think it would have to stronger.

By the time you get an 091, buy a super diff and weddle gears.. you would have spent the same on a Subaru Trans.

What are your thoughts..

How big is the r@p. That is the biggest weak link I think. And also what about gearing can you get one feared down far enough for what we do

It looks like you can get different gear sets depending on the make and model of the donor vehicle.

As for the R&P, you can get 4.11, 4.44 or 4.86.

Another benefit, the engine gets raised up 2 inches and you can actually use reverse.

The strongest Subaru trans you can get is out of an 04 STI that is the trans most of the rally cars use,
As far as a regular Subaru trans I'm on # 2 in my WRX

lets not forget about it going the wrong way! I know someone makes a reverse cut ring and pinion for it, but now your just dumping money into it like an 091. Not saying its a bad idea or anything, I would love to hear how it works

I agree, the reverse R&P is another $1500. At the end of the day, you can get a beefed up 091 or a working Subaru for around the same price.... does a working Subaru work better than a beefed up 091???

Consider leaving the motor in front of the tranny and use babychains

Im am currently working on installing a 2001 subaru 2.5L engine and TRANSMISSION into a 1991 vanagon for a customer. I complete reverse ring and pinion was bought from subarugears.com

I can tell you one thing. These trannys are extremely easy to work on they come apart in halves. One side of the case comes off and all the gears stay in the other half.

Also Subarugears.com is working on an adapter plate to go to and ecotec motor for those of us that have alot invested into those engines.

The subaru R&P is smaller then the 091. But has a hypoid gear design.

A hypoid gear is stronger setup.

Weddle makes custom gear seats just like the 091

I am also talking to them about becoming a sponsor for the site but I want to make sure their products work Off Road before I add them to the site.

Yea that's my interest too. If it will hold up off road. But what impressed me is these Trans are all over the junk yards. Also how easy they are to take apart an put together. The 5 speed off road really isn't a big deal I defiantly wouldn't call it a bad thing lol.
