Does anyone know what the benefits would be other than the reverse gear being larger of going to a side shift versus a nose shift 6 rib transmission? I am moving from a 3 rib to a 6 rib but want to do it right so I am considering either or to install. Thanks for the help.

Some side shifts had a super diff from the factory. Also, I believe some have stronger froward gears but I'm not sure.

The entire Mid shift trans is stronger than the nosecone 6 rib. The side shift trans is merly a nosecone trans with a side shifter circa up to early 1983. IMHO it's a no brainer to run the 84 and later Midshift for the reverse gear alone.

The 1st gear on a 3 rib is like 14 mm, 17mm on a 6 rib and 19 on a side shift. I could be off a little. And much bigger ring and pinion teeth.
