My dad's buggy came with the Weddle linkage and after trying to fine tune my linkage I decided I wanted to simplify it by making a Weddle style too. I had the splined piece from a sideshift already and I figured the bushing could just be a steering bushing. I ordered up a stainless steering support with the bronze bushings in it. I already had a bunch of .75" o.d heavy wall tubing that I used for my steering shaft. I made some patterns from my dad's linkage and pulled out the plasma cutter. I had an older 1/2" impact swivel laying on the bench and decided to use it for the swivel arm. Since these pics were taken I drove out the pin in the swivel and beveled the lower ball section down a little with a grinder to get it more throw. I haven't had time to get it dialed in yet but so far it's working pretty good. I'm having trouble getting second gear but I think I just need to adjust the shaft a little more. Hopefully I'll have it dialed in by next week. Seems smooth so far.

I concur with Forty on this one, why reinvent the linkage when you can build a better less costly mouse trap (linkage in this case)

They already have Mike and I know Weddle doesn't use a swivel socket so he changed it enough to avoid a patent infringement. I just wish I had the tools you have I could do some neat stuff it sucks renting with no real garage space.

There are no patent issues as long as you don't build it and then sell it. I have 3 items on my car that were derived from someone else. The difference is I asked permission from the guy who designed two of them, my front beam and my rear trailing arms. In fact he gave me the dimensions on some of the key items necessary to build both of them. If I could have found who originally designed the single seat shifter, I would of asked for permission from him.
This is the reason I will not "share" anything here anymore and if I build something for someone else I insist they not advertise it as well.

Sometime its just easier to use what works. Some people don't have time to sit down and design something or a complete machine shop . I myself have had 3 different side shift set ups and this design works to good not to use it. I would rather ride on my time off than set around scratching my head trying to figure something else out when you can use some idea that is proven.

All good ideas are the ones people take . Who the hell want to use bad ideas. Hell you should be proud if someone uses a idea of yours. I'm sure it won't be done as nice but the basic idea may be used. Isn't anyone on here that doesn't steal ideas from other. Lol funny Mike you brought me a good memory just now cause this is something my dad preached .

Weedle got no money from either of us we wernt going to be customers anyway. But I am not reselling parts to others so I am not taking their buisness. Did you get 2nd figured out? I ended up doing a heim shifter.

I haven't had time to dial it in yet. I have a heim joint sitting here just in case this doesn't work out. I really like the heim idea but at the time I had plans for the heim joint and the swivel looked like a good fit. I hope to have a rain day soon so I can go adjust it and button this fix up.

the empi shifter i had was ship and the stock style parts were iffy soo i did a heim shifter using my leftover parts from last time (too much $ in trans to question gear engagement)

Excuse my ignorance but I'm curious. Does the shift lever on these sideshifts keep rotating around a pivot for every gear? Or is it more like a motorcycle gear box where the lever just needs a jerk one way or the other and you have to count thru the gears like 5 up 1 down?
It looks cool, I wish I had one just so could make that cool linkage!

you put it in the gear you want. no guessing. its in or not, reverse is in it own hole and you learn it that's easy. now first u gotta look and try @ first then it easy too
