If its a scat dragfast the shifter is supposed to have a " built in reverse lockout" I was told. I had one and my buddy had one we couldn't get them to work . My opinion on a shifter is and old original hurst. Indy. Gene berg or a stock. Just my 2 cents.

the lock plate is not needed on the scat shifter if everything is adjusted correctly and not worn out, ive had 3 different buggys with the scat shifter and a few buddys with them also and never had any trouble whatsoever, best shifter for the money available imo

somebody may have adjusted the nut up too tight on the bottom of the reverse lever, pull the boot up at the bottom and work it up and down to see if its catching the side lockout

also does the shift rod have an adjuster in it?

if you cant figure out what im saying about how the shifter works/adjusts let me know and i will try to dig up an extra one i have and take some pics

i think i know what you are saying, it' be a few days til i can get any real time to look at it, working 12hr shifts & having a family & hobby is rough.oh, and this buggy doesnt have a adj.shift rod. im not saying that isnt a possible factor, but the buggies i built way back when i didnt need readindg glasses to work on anything i just shortened the origonal & never had any issues.
