Nose cone and early 83 side shift Vanagon use the same one. From late 83 on mid shifts, use a different pinion shaft due to the reverse gear being on the tail end of the shaft. |

Either ring and pinion will work . On the 094 we just cut off the reverse gear and it works in 091 so either is ok with me |
