If you're going to put all that money in it, why wouldn't you just pick up an 091 for $400 somewhere?

Go up to Canada and get a side shift 5 speed with a 483 and a 411 1st and 233 2nd.The final drive multiplied will pull like a 526. A 486 5 speed will pull like a 530.Lots a meat in that trans.

What is this 5 speed you're describing? I've never heard of it. Sounds interesting to me, especially if 5th is an overdrive. I could use that for the street in my buggy and still have a solid 1st and 2nd. Is it an 094?

This.....

OR, just take the several thousand dollar trip to canada to hunt for a trans. That would make much more sense!

I know a couple guys that are running a 3 rib with weddle stuff and they have been tough as nails. I myself run a 5 rib with all weddle gears and a 5.38 ring and pinion. Mine has worked great until yesterday, I broke a tooth off a spider gear. Where I broke it at any tranny built would have broke. I say build it, it will hold fine. I have a very hot 2386 against mine and it takes it.

It is an 094, has a lower 1st gear added to the nose area next to the reverse gear, no overdrive gear.
Same as a syncro 4wd trans, just the pinion shaft is shorter and does not couple to a front diff.

it all depends on the driver!!! I have seen v-8's pushing 3 ribs and hold up, and I've seen 1600's break 6 ribs.
