What is the size of that saturn engine you are running. May be a bit much for the 3 rib to handle.

It sounds like you have broken reverse gears. There are no syncros to go bad. As Nitro stated with the power you have it would be a good choice to go with a 5 or 6 rib, maybe even a mid shift 6 rib if you don't mind a little work gettin it in there. The reverse setup in those is HUGE.

Describe sound?
If it is kinda howling while backing up, just be easy on it.
If it's jerking, clunking or you can feel it when backing up, then yes you need it fixed.
Recommend Eric Debord in Mt. Olive,Ky, he is about 130 miles from you.
#1 vw tranny rule never spin tires while in reverse.

hopefully you didn't kill 2nd also. reverse meshes with 2nd. when it goes it can take 2nd also. If rev only not to bad to fix. Still probably flat rate to tear down. $150 +parts around here. Good luck.
