K iam in the process of building a new building.From a long break.i want a all round buggy. And i know its going to be hard to get a buggy that will do everything i want and be great at it all..So i have my buggy and i have my motor.Now iam ready to get a tranny.I know bus is the way to go.But like everybody knows they are harder and harder to come buy. there are starting to go for 500 to 700 bucks and thats not counting any mods you want to do.So to the point Rancho pro steet trans.Any good? will it old up to a multi purpose buggy? |

Pretty much a stock car trans with a few goodies, but geared to high for offroad use. |

If your starting fresh i would look at a 1984 and later Vanagon mid shift 6 rib trans and build from there. It offers the strongest reverse VW had to offer. |

I've never paid over $200 for a fwd trans. The 1st one blew up because I did not weld the spyder gears good.I have a new one in the buggy now with a spare on deck. Hey another plus, no more buying 4 spyder vanagon diffs.How long does a brand new shiny IMA starter last? No oil coolers or external filters with rubber oil lines to blow off.The VR6 has 10 flywheel BOLTS. |

Thanks for the info. I posted a add in the parts section and there are some guys that have a few trans for sale. So I will pick me one up. Then I will go from there. Iam really wanting to get into racing. Is there places to race? Where sold I put my money into the trans to make it a stronger more reliable trans? |

The best Trans for your build will really depend on your motor and tires. What size motor and tires are you planning to run? |

I would start out with a '84 or newer 6 rib and build from there! There are a few places to race in the mid-west |

5 rib with superdiff should be fine. Heck, a 3 rib would work with a 2.0 pretty good. I've got an adapter and flywheel for that 2.0 if you need it. |

Just got my buggy going in the early spring, had it in the woods once and it did pretty damn good. As far as on the street, I tach approx 3000 rpm's running 55 mph. I will eventually build a 6 rib but for now it does good for what I'm doing. As soon as hunting season is over I'll be back to the woods and we'll see how long it lasts from there. |

I've got an adapter and flywheel for that 2.0 if you need it. |

I have been to that site. Just dont understand what class i would be able to run. Not sure where they all race. Iam wanting to get into some racing just need to get motre info and what not |
