the acorn is just as strong as a regular 3 rib. The problem your going to see is that you cant fix'em if anything other than the diff gets broke. They dont fit in a regular trans jig. since it was only a half year part, there arnt parts (bearings and such) floating around for them.

You might want to use the foward gears and leave reverse alone...

Why do you want to trash it? Looking for practice at tranny swapping?

ok i was drunk when i wrote that  but i dont plan on it being a permanent trans for my rail due to what racebug stated, about the jig and parts, but ive always read and heard that they were the weakest of the three ribs, and i am tryin to get rid of the weak links ! but figured for the couple of rides left for the year id test its strength, not so much in reverse  !!! im always careful in reverse , hold the shifter in and all, dont understand what happened to this trans, wasnt even in reverse that whole day. i knew enough to put it on the trailer instead of screwin everything in there up tho, once i figured out what it was. either way a little old tranny cant keep me down for to long  I"LL BE BACK

LOL..Yep, I can't afford to trash nothing...I always need spare parts, plus its a good way to learn by trying to fix it.

IMO< the acorn style is not nearly as strong as the threaded 3-ribs. 2 main reasons are: (1) the pinion bearing setup is a joke.. a snapring with three tabs is a poor setup compared to the threaded bearing. (2) the side diff bearing caps are a lot weaker then the threaded ones.
