I broke a few side shifts with my V6 Buick a long time ago so I put a home made 1/8 piece of aluminium between the bell housing and case on Austins buggy in '05 and he has never broke. I did that because the case and bell housing would have a large stretched crack in the lower rt corner when I would shear the pinion teeth. What do yall think?

Well Dave,
I'm taking your advice, but thinking about using steel instead.
I was banging on a 5ft ledge a couple of weekends ago and broke the pinion in my 091, case cracked just as you described.
Was your piece just cut to fit around the inside edge of the case, or was it pretty much solid with just an opening for the ring gear to pass through?
