A 1978 bus will have a 6 rib 091 tail shift if it hasnt been changed,3 ribs were somewhere around 68-73 5ribs were 74-75 and 091 6 ribs were 76-79 you get into the side shifts 80 and up I believe the tail section side shifts were 80 -83 and 84 up the shifter was on the mid section of the case, this is info I have found on the internet researching these trannys the past several years,I am by no means an expert just passing along info I have read.If this does not answer your question, pm Roy or Eric Debord they will know for sure

Darek,

Let me know if you want to sell your 3-rib then. Or are you just going to keep it as a spare?

You should put your 3 rib in the bus, and the 6rib in your buggy

I thought about that. The only thing i dont know about is when i put the 3 rib in my buggy i had to trim the input shaft down. Would it still work in the bus or do i need a new shaft? or is possible to trade shafts in the trannys? if so would it be pretty simple to do?

It will still work even with the shaft cut down. You can easily change the shaft if you wanted to. Simple. Remove bellhousing, take off the snap ring, slide the coupler collar bac
