Well guys... had a great time in Wellsville last weekend but the 3 rib finally gave out climbing out of the creek bed. Heres where I need some input. I am running a 1915 on a rather lite buggy. Should I try and rebuild my 3 rib or just look for a 5 or 6 rib? There is so much discussion on here about 3,5,and 6 ribs and then side-shifts... it all starts to blur together. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks, Bo |

I like the gearing of a 5 rib for a 1915 |

Go 5 rib u will love it. It is the perfect gear ratio imo. U get wheel speed and u still have low gearing. |

Thanks guys. I was thinking 5 rib as well. Anyone know where I can find one reasonably close? I'm in NE Ohio. |

5 rib is usually geared on the ring and pinion 4.86,,,some 6 ribs are also 4.86. ( I have one in my buggy) |

No prob Jarid. You and I both had the same problem... at 7am we were physically on the trail... but mentally sleeping! Did you ever figure out what hill I broke on? What was crazy was we yanked my buggy out with a basically stock (bfg mud terrains) 78 f-250 (with one hell of a driver) and a 30 foot snap strap. He backed that thing down the hill 100 yds and hooked up and all I could think was now we have two rides stuck on this fing trail! But a few clutch dumps and wheel hops later we were on our way back to camp. Anyway... I am looking for a 5 or 6 rib tranny now so let me know if you see one! |

5 rib gearing is nice with a 1915, but unfortunately a 5 rib is no stronger than a 3 rib. If your buggy is light like you said and your 1915 is fairly strong, it will pull a 6 rib pretty good with 31's. Plus you will already have a trans that will handle more motor if you decide to upgrade later. |

I knew the r&p was a little stronger (as any numerically higher r&P would be) , but I did NOT know first gear was. They are still weak by comparison to a 6 rib. Mild stroker and decent hookin tires can bust a stock 5 rib. |
