I just completed rebuilding my fist 091 (at least the gear carrier housing). My question is I have read somewhere that you can drill extra oiling holes the diff. I took mine apart and noticed some light galling on spider cross pin? Has anyone drilled one before? Where do you drill the holes? Is this recommended? Does it weaken the diff? This is a stock 4 spider German supper diff. Any input would be appreciated. :?:

Ive heard of some of the aftermarket super diffs not having oiling holes or at least not enough, but cant say i've heard about drilling extra holes in the german diff

Doing donuts with the cut brake cooks the gear oil in those swirl passages on the pin and clogs the passages. Synthetic oil will get in the tiny passages better but when you hill climb it all washes back to the rear like water and leaves 1st and 2nd gears and bearrings dry.So , knowing all this now, I stick with sticky monkey snot gear oil and don't unnecessarrily use the cut brake.

So drill or not to drill is the question? The diff is only 2 seasons old? I rarely do donuts but I have a budy that does donuts all the time and he never has any problems? Maybe it's my gear oil? just 80-90 weight non synthetic?

If you have a German 4 spyder you can't hurt it and don't modify. It's the 2 spyders I was concerned with. When U break spyder gears in a 2 diff look at the surface of the broke gear and they will be blue from heat and no oil.4 spyders share the load.

2 spider diff? He'll I blew that one out fist time out to the ville. :D. O well just a thought..... ill replace the center pin and finsh her up. 8)
