i have a 6 rib nose shift that i got last year. came to find it has a really low r/p in it. something like a 5.83 or so. was told it was called a swiss apls gear? my question is i have 31 and 33 inch tall tires. with a 2276 and these tires what is it gonna act like? i know allot of you southern guys run these low gears but with way taller tires. my current trans is a side shift from 84 vanagon. doing some redesign and considering switching for ease of shifter.

Run the 33s with it. Personally I would stay with the Vanagon trans because of the reverse gear. Buy the Weddle shifer linkage for 300 bucks and be done with it. Having to pay someone to replace the reverse gear in a nose cone trans will cost ya that. Ask Plumerbill how many times he's replaced reverse.

ya thats what i was thinking too. the transmission guy around here said the same thing. figured would get another opinion though. who around ne ohio carries those weddle shifters? i looked on thies web sight but there nothing on it about them?

Its my understanding you need to call Weddle. They probably have not got around to listing it. I know if I can not get my current shifting setup to work better than it does I will be buying that one. It basically mimics the factory setup.

them 5;83 trans are really weak r& p

people here run 38 ich tires with the low gear 6 ribs and still low i woud not use it with 33 or 31s you will have no speed
