Hey yall.. Been gone for a while but finally trying to get back into my buggy. Long story, but anyway here's my dilemma... Keep in mind I know very little about transaxles.. Hell, I'm not even that smart in general! I've got a 5 rib with a superdiff.. New to me (2 years ago) but never has been run. I could never get it into reverse. Not with the shifter, not with vice grips, nothing.. I asked around a little & was told it could be the hockey stick bent, the little ball it fits into worn out, etc.. So it's been sitting now for almost 2 years due to life getting in the way. This morning I finally pulled it back out, pulled the nose cone off & everything looks new & tight. I figured out the middle shaft is for reverse but it's really hard to pull out, at least compared to the other 2 shafts which I can almost push & pull by hand. Not sure if something is bent or missing or ?? I thought maybe working it in & out a little might loosen things up but not sure if that's working & I really don't wanna put this thing back in without knowing what's up with it. I do have a couple extra 3 ribs but I got the 5 rib to use, not just to look at!! So anyways.. I'd really appreciate any input on this. It's been over 2 years & I really wanna ride.. Thanks! -Steve |

Reverse has a lot more going on than the other 2 sliders. If nothing is broken and if its all jigged up correct, and it has been siting for a couple years, it could be getting rusty. I Just took a 5-rib apart last weekend for a buddy, and it was all kinds of rusty up in the reverse linkage area, and I think it had been sitting for about 2 years. Make sure you got oil in it and turn it upside down and get that oil everywhere and try it again. |

Thanks for the advice! Tonight I'll flip it over a few times & try working that slider in & out several times. I think I'll put the nose cone back on & see if I'm able to do anything with it. Hopefully it'll loosen up! It has been sitting for 2 years.. When I acquired it, it had just been gone thru to make sure it was ok. I could tell someone had actually been in there when I changed the bell-housing, everything was clean & coated w/ red grease.. Anyway, I filled it with new oil & installed it.. That's when I noticed it wouldn't go into reverse. The buggy soon lost it's position at the top of my "to do list" so now it's sat for 2 years & here I am. She's back near the top now!!! |

Some times if its easier for reverse to engage when its spinning (hooked up to your motor), but its alot of unnessisary work if something is wrong

Thats a good idea! I have seen hand cranks and stuff, but wasnt impressed, but a drill, I could do that!
