I'm thinking this might be my next upgrade. Has anyone heard much about it? they claim it will handle 350 hp with 33" tires on a 2500lbs buggy in race conditions

Only what I read and Weddle has told me. I do like the mounting system as you could easyly set your frame up to remove trans without removing engine. You can get a Mende for the same price. I don't know if its a better trans or not.

From what I've read, the mendeola has a weak case, and that is the #1 failure. The HV-1 also has a 10" r&p, the same gear stack, but has a full size reverse. I'm not all that impressed with the mendeolas I've raced with, and have seen several break. Its all still a dream till I sell a house and don't have 2 mortgages!

I was out this weekend with two other rails that had Mendeolas. One off them chipped the ring gear backing up a steep incline to turn around. He was not racing just backing up slow. It wheel spun for an instant when it lost traction and chipped the gear. They are using them behind 3.0 and 3.5 Nissan V6s and the forward gears don't break like the Bus boxes they were using but the reverse are small like the bus gears. Prety lame for a $10,000 transaxle. At one time Hewland had a $13,000 automaitc off road transaxle that they warrantied against any internal damage for a full season.

Nick, I think you should just buy the HV-1 and be the the beta tester for us. Sounds like a good plan to me!
