Hello. Dave here from Fultondale Al. I had that site back in '04-07. I sold a few on Backyardbuggies but I was turning blue trying to educate people to side shift til my patience ran out so I quit. The ring n pinion is massive aswell as all gears. '85-'91 with ACW written on the lower driver side corner meant it had a 4 spyder diff. Vanagon 83-85 had ABD which meant 2 spyder. Pull up http://www.partsemporium.co.uk and pull up type 25 gearbox codes, thats what British call a vanagon and look at the different ratios. Some special ordered from the factory such as a towing package had ACW in those three years. If you get 1 off e-bay you can tell which ones are just nasty cores by how the slave cyl, nose mt and linkage are gone because they needed them to go back in the van with the new trans. Ask the seller about the code.My son with a 2110 cc, has had his side shift in his for 5 years with NO problems.Secure the case tight in many ways with extra tight mts to prevent case twisting.I got it for $200 back then. Got sick of pulling him out of the valleys and going thru the rigors of money and time we all have to deal with when this happens.Check out my new way of thinking on this site under Woods Buggy Talk then under Totally New Concept. The 1997 VW Passat trans is a whole lot more plentiful and fresher than something back in the '70's. Hope to ride in Leeds this weekend. Thanks
