I have been bleeding these brakes since I built this car. I think I have tried every trick possible. They work great most of the time, but one out of every 4 times you grab the steering brake, theres nothin! That sucks for racin!! This was my last try at bleeding them. We were pressure bleeding them at the time

Yes, I had a speedway valve on it last year, and suspected that to be the problem, so I put a wilwood on it this year, and it didn't make any difference. I have it right behind the master cylinder.

Have you checked to make sure none of your rotors are bent?

It took me 3 days of bleading and rebuilding the cutters and master cylinder to find out that was my problem. If you have fixed calipers and the rotor is warped it will push the pistons back in every time it comes in contact with the warped spot, making you have to pump the brakes to push the pistons back out.

I took a brass hammer and tried to straiten mine, it helped a little but I still have to pump it every now and then.

Rotors are straight. I just put new scalloped rotors on this year, and I have checked them. All the bearings and everything in the back are tight and good as new. I'm not kidding when I say I've spent over 10 hours bleeding them and checking everything out. I have kind of given up on them, but it still won't get any better. The pedal always seems good, its just the steering brakes that give me problems

Also make sure you do not have a bent stub axel. It will cause the rotor to push the pucks back into the caliper.

A 15" cresent wrench with a piece of pipe on it is a better method of strighteing rotors. You will have better control of the repair.

Dumb question,but are using a power bleeder?If so after you open you bleeder's on the calipers compress the pad and piston all the way in and stick a socket or big bolt inbetween the pad and rotor,then continue to let the bleeder work and pump your pedals and steering brake a few times in the process,then pull the socket out and close off your bleeders while the bleeder is running and give your steering brakes a few pumps till they are tight and shut off the bleeder.I done this myself in 10 min. after working on mine for 3 days and they are tits still.

I was pressure bleeding with nitrogen.

Sounds to me like you have a seal that intermitently fails or lets fluid past it in your steering brake. Have you tried a different one? I have had master cylinders do that and then if you stomp pedal fast and hard you can get pedal to return again. its the internal seal or a rough bore and sometimes fluid gets by the seal therefore no brake pressure.

Sorry I was refering toYOUR steering brake. I was using masters as an example. I work as a tech and over the years i have had the complaint from customers of my brake sometimes goes to the floor and sometimes its ok. This is always a master cylinder that has an internal seal letting fluid by intermitently. In YOUR case it sounds as though your steering brake is doing the same thing if your pedal is fine when using the foot brake then the problem should not be air in the system. If it is air in the system it should effect foot and hand brake. I think you have a faulty steering brake.

No & my race car does the same thing .with all new parts cnc & wilwoods

Did you take the calipers off and compress them fully? then bleed them while fully compressed? it worked for me
