Hello...

I am having some problems with my rear brakes and I was hoping for some advice. I have cnc pedals and disc brakes on all four wheels. Since I built the buggy, the front brakes have always locked up and I could never get the rear to lock up. I just installed a proportional valve to reduce the pressure to the front and I still cannot lock up the rear brakes.

I was think I might need to replace my rear disc brakes. They are fairly cheap EMPI brake with a small single pad.

Any other ideas?

I use 4 piston wilwood calipers on the rear just for that issue. now the car sets down and the fronts dont brake traction. I went to drum brakes on the front to help with the brake bias issues i was having now, on gravel I can hit the brakes and not lose directional control.

Instead of doing that why not go to a single handle staging brake for the fronts only. We go down some reall nasty steep hills, you control how much or how little front brakes you have, no loss of steering.
The front ends on most buggys are too light to have a foot brake do all 4 corners, can't bias enough out of the front.

Its alll about surface area the bigger the calipers the more surface area you have. The steering brakes work better with the bigger brakes and they require less pedal effort with more stroke. The fronts, yes isolate, if they could get you jammed up on steep stuff, but I am not sure about getting around inspections if you do that?

I see you have the same brakes I had, you can use your rotors just mount the calipers up and go?

I really like the idea of a front staging brake but I do a lot of street driving and a front stage brake would be illegal.

I am glad to hear that my rotors should still work but did the caliper brackets work as well or did you need to fabricate new brackets?

Lucky you, street legal. Us up here in the communist state of Pa, it's hard for us to think of a buggy being run on the road without being chased by the cops.

I have 4 wheel disc brakes on my buggy. I used a couple of ball valves to have the option of 4 wheel brakes with the pedal (with proportioning valve ) or rear pedal seperated from the front on seperate master cylinder with pull handle. Best of both worlds. I did this because I too used to ride the steets a lot.
