First time installing brake lines.

Where you guys ordering your brake lines and connectors?



I'm getting ready to do mine soon and was wanting to know a good place to start.

The local autozone here has coated lines... they last a lot longer than non-coated ones. They look like an olive-drab color.

It depends on what you want. If you stick with the metric bubble flare a VW shop would have them like Larry's or Drew's. Just get the adapters and run standard double flare and save the time and money. I went with stainless and AN fittings and it added up to be a big investment but to me worth it since its one of the most important systems on the car.

Auto Zone carries the metric bubble flare lines and they are nicely coated. You will like them.

I HAVE ORDERED ALL MY BREAK STUFF FROM MOOREPARTS and everythinng has been standard flare , Iuse 3/16 standard line on everything

Can the coated lines be cut and reflared?

I'm jonesing wanting to work on the buggy but won't have it back for a few more days.

I have ordered alot of stuff from mooreparts. they have about anything you could want except customer service. you ask them a question or if something in your order aint right they pretty much treat you like you dont know shit. Good store shitty service. Kinda off topic sorry i had to rant..

Yes you can cut and reflare the ends. I have used them on my new buggy and it isn't any different than flaring the regular lines. Going to be finishing up mine tomorrow if I can find the flex lines I am looking for.

Be very careful re-flaring lines from Autozone. I worked there for two years as a manager. The coated line that they have is good stuff if you use it as is but if you try to re-flare it, it is brittle. I have seen many people bring line back that they had done with what looked like perfect flares except it was in two pieces!!!! The flare would break off right at the base of the flare where it transitioned back to straight. I thought it was something they were doing wrong because it didn't happen every time. I took a piece that had been returned and kept cutting and flaring it, about a third of the flares failed in exactly the same way, leading me to believe that it is a problem with the line.

Never heard of a failure on a factory flared line though.......

I used stainlees tube that came in a roll from Summit Racing. It was not the seamless DOT stuff but I never questioned the safety factor when dropping over a cliff. It is rated for about 5000psi! I also used stainless steel compresion fittings from McMaste&Carr (no flares) again not DOT aproved but we used these same fittings at a power plant that I worked at to carry 3800psi 900deg. F steam to presure gauges. The flex lines were braided stainless covered teflon from Earl's. It is a set-up that will last longer than the car will but might be a little hard on the wallet. My opinion is to go cheaper on the hard line and still run braided stainless flex lines. The flex lines are always the ones in harm's way when dropping over a big hill.

The name of the ones I used is polymer lines from NAPA. Had a piece there and they showed that you cant kink it by bending it and twisting it. Everything in my buggy clutch and all brakes I used this stuff n them.
