Post subject:  brake bias

I am in the middle of upgrades. Tweeds beem combo spindles coil overs 3x3s vanagon trans ect... This here is my Brake issue I had disk front an rear on a wilwood dual master. I put the fronts on a larger master and adjusted the bias as much to the rear as possible the fronts were still too much. What I am doing now is back to stock vw drums on front an 4 piston wilwood calipers on the rear 1 3/4 pistons. this should take care of the bias issue? I ride mostly country roads trails no hills yet! thanks Kendel

Guess that'll work fine on trails and dirt roads, but dont think you'll like it for rough woods. Drums get full of junk and weighed down and heard they slip bad when wet and muddy. Friends said they tried it years back, and took 'em back off quickly. Put the good stuff back on and put it on a seperate handle. I was AMAZED at what the front brakes alone would hold you on when facing down hill w/ some traction implement front tires. I only got single piston fronts ,too. made by Strange Eng. Came off a friends door car drag car.

Have you tried one of these on the front and turned it all the way down? This is what I use. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=sku

I use that wilwood valve on the rear of my drag car and it cuts about half the psi.

I have never seen a proportioning work correctly. If they are adjusted correctly when backing off of a hill, they won't hold enough going over a hill forward and vice versa. The seperate handle/cylinder is the best way to go, imo.

I agree with E. D. . I have a proportioning valve on mine and it is set all the way one way,,(I forget which) and it works great on the road. I have valves to switch my front brakes to a separate handle for offroad and this is the way to go. You use the front brakes when you really need them, like a motor cycle. Going down hills and under heavy breaking on those rally races we sometimes get into especially on the night rides . Most of the time we don't need front brakes but when we do,,we really do and it is nice to have them. 8)
