Hello All,

I just got this buggy and I'm not at all knowledgeable in VW's or buggys. It definately needs a new master cylinder or this one rebuilt. But I have no idea what to look for. Here is a picture of the master cylinder.

I'm pretty sure it's a stock VW but I need to know what year to look/ask for. I'd get a rebuild kit if I can find one reasonable otherwise I'll get a whole master cylinder.

My other delima is the disk brakes. It only has brakes on the rear wheels. I'm kinda assuming these are aftermarket but again I don't really have a clue.

I'm gonna need to buy pads for these sooner or later so It would help to know what they are. Also these have two bleed screws so I'm assuming I need to bleed both? Maybe someone could explain the bleeding procedure?

welcome aboard! what's your location? update your profile pic to show it, or you'll get asked a thousand times! definitely stock master cylinder, and the brakes are your common cheapo disc brake calipers, so you can get the pads easy enough. all depends on budget and what your wanting to do with it ultimately! a wise man will cry once and buy good shit, whereas most of us have to learn the hard way! and your motor is probably a 1915.

They look like empi brakes just get on eBay for your master cylinder just measure your bore and you can ussally find them for around 30 bucks new as for pads no clue where to buy them

The master cylinder looks like a stock vw bus up 1966. Has 22.2 bore.

you can get pads for those brake calipers from appletree or drews...ghia calipers

Welcome. That stock master cylinder is designed to push a lot of fluid out to 4 drum brakes. If you choose to replace the master cylinder it would wise to upgrade to one appropriate for discs if the budget allows. The dual bleeders allow the same caliper to be used left and right, only open the top bleeder.

Thank you all for your replies and information. My thoughts are that this buggy will be a street buggy for the most part. We've got a RZR and a couple of ATV's for riding. I can see taking it to the local off-road park in Bell County for some mild riding though.

The information on the brakes was exactly what I was looking for. I'll probably put a stock master cylinder back on it for now. I think me and the wife are going to use this buggy just to the drive-in and get a burger on the weekends.

I appreciate all the info!
