I'm installing 3X3's and would like some input on whether to run the caliper in the rear or on top of the trailing arm. The rear location seems to be vulnerable to tree damage when backing down a hill! I think there is plenty of room on top with the shock mount in place. Thanks in advance for any help.

If they will clear everything, mount them on top for sure. They are way less vulnerable up there.

I just put 3x3 tubular arms with Willwood brakes on my rail this summer.I spent 3 or4 days fabing them up for top mount,and when i put my new 6" offset wheels on they completly cover the calaper.I could have slaped them on the back and run a 90 in to the calaper.

The only thing i can see thusfar is that the shock mount bolt will need to be installed with the nut facing the caliper, which is not a problem. It is a little tight their but will work best i can tell. Ive only mocked everything up as of now.

my cousins old one had the regular caliper bracket and 80's nova brakes

I have 3x3's and I mounted my calipers in the rear. They are protected by the wheel pretty much. 5" offset keeps them tucked inside the wheel for the most part. 90deg. fitting for the brake line. No problems so far.
