Post subject:  steering stop ideas?

looking for some ideas for a steering stop for ball joint. I thought my only problem was the tire hitting my frame and rubbing the paint off but after closer inspection my problem is much worse. at full turn my tire is rubbing the control arm and wearing a groove in the side wall of the tire. been pondering this for a week now and the only idea I got is modifying the steering stabilizer. my idea is to move the mount on the beam to limit the steering at full extension of the stabilizer then welding a nut on the stabilizer rod to limit the steering in the other direction. my only concern with this is killing my stabilizer and possibly pulling it apart. any thoughts on this? any better ideas?

Weld a spacer of some sort to the link pin carrier, It would limit the amount the spindle turns.

madmike is there a way to have heims on the front end? I ask this question bc I have seen them mostly on the back and not on the front just wondering.

I ran 3/4" heims with high misalignment spacers on my first buggy with stock arms and spindles, yes very doable.

and your talking to your self mike! thats funny. anyhow , hp, the problem is in your front end steering adjustment.if you have a stock steering box maybe its not mounted in the correct spot to accomadate your adjustments. or turn your inners out more and lessen the outers or visa versa! its like finding the g spot!! ive rebuilt my front end numerous times and ive always had to adjust the hell out of it to try to get it rite ,or for that matter come close to where i could deal with it. its definately a trick or luck to get it rite but if you mess with it long enough you'll get what im sayin. and that damn steering stabilizer can suck a big one! went thru 2 in one year and honestly think there just for street! adjust and turn wheel... adjust and turn wheel.. adjust and turn wheel..you'll get it

dave im not sure i understand what your saying. my alignment is right i did it with a machine at work. the problem is my tires rubbing at full turn both ways. rick i know it sounds crazy but my tire is rubbing the control arm where it pivots on the torsion. ill get a pic when i get home tonight and post it.

I could see on a wider beam that could happen, but my tires hit my frame before they get that close.

Flip your rims inside out and no steering stop needed :)

I have a set of 1/2" thick 4 bolt spacers I'll let go cheap.

run smaller tires. Do NOT flip your wheels inside out unless you don't value your fingers or wrists anymore.

Post subject:  Re: steering stop ideas?

last thing I want to do is run smaller tires. these are only 6.00-15. I agree with saving my fingers which is why im still debating getting the spacers off mike.

Even a 1/2" spacer is going to cause some very minor steering changes and are not the perfect fix. The best fix would be to change the offset in the wheel. Just how wide are the floor rails on your car hp ?

The spacers are yours if you need them. Make an offer plus $6.00 for shipping.
