Post subject:  Sentra Calipers or Wilwood Calipers?????

I know this topic has been debated before but I wanted to see what everyone was thinking these days.

I am thinking about separating my cutter brake and my pedal brake. Running a completely separate master cylinder and calipers for the cutting brake.

I am trying to decide what brake calipers to run with my cutter? Sentra? Wilwood? or other?

I think that is a great idea! If I was doing that I would run the same caliper for both my foot brake and cutter. I recently up graded my brakes from the Vw calipers to a set of wilwoods and love the up grade. What calipers are you running now?

I run front calipers off 94 Mercedes s class their 4 piston but I has to upgrade my master cyclinder to a 1 in wilwood but they work great pick up the calipers at a pull-a-part junkyard
For $15 each and about $28 for new pads

I currently have VW floating calipers in the rear and wilwood in the front. Unfortunately, to maintain being street legal, I need to keep the VW calipers so I can have an e-brake. I could look at a park lock or some other option but I thought it would be nice to have separated calipers. In addition, it will be easier to bleed them if they are separated and I will have a back-up brake incase anything ever happened to one of the lines.

The wilwood were my 1st choice but they are much more expensive than the Sentra.

Sentra for me. They work great with 3/4 cnc master or anything I've tried. IMO

Wildwood makes a small cable pull disk brake unit for use as e-brake or parking brake. I think they are about half the size as a regular caliper. I was thinking of getting those.

I saw that and was considering that option but all the calipers with a cable only have a single piston and float the caliper. The single piston works fine for the pedal but I want something with more breaking force on my cutter.

Your right. I was thinking just as an e brake. Two independent calipers per wheel would be nice in case of emergency.

I used 93 sentra on mine. Worked great and the complete set up cost me 30 bucks at the salvage yard.

I believe from mid '80 to lower '90's are the same. Mine are '86. Use the front calipers then switch them from left to right to get the bleeders on top.

advance auto part numbers:

calipers: slc8664
slc8665

pads: emkd 275

Thanks everyone.. Now I just need the garage to warm up.. It was 28 degrees in the garage. I think I will wait to work on the brakes.

Yh145621. This is assuming you have the hub that the rotor slips on.

If your hub is part of your rotor you'll have to go to appletreeauto.com or another vw shop
